Earlier this month, TLS reported about a Lakewood EMS member whose motorcycle helmet was stolen when she stopped to helped an accident victim.Immediately following the report, the Lakewood Police and LFD Foundations reached out to TLS offering to sponsor a new helmet and other accompanying equipment.Ultimately, police recovered the helmet, but it was damaged. On Friday afternoon, Lakewood Police Foundation President Ben Inzelbuch and LFD Foundation Trustee Harrison Pfeffer presented the member, Nikki Rue, with the new helmet and equipment.“I am so incredibly thanful and honored to work for a town that truly is like no other,” Rue told TLS. “The sense of community and the support is unmatched. It is moments like this that remind me of why I love this town and the people in it so much.”She added, “In an act of nothing other than instinct and training, unfortunately my only form of protection was taken. The Lakewood Police Foundation and Lakewood Fire Foundation not only shared my story with the help of TLS, but also took a step further by helping me replace the stolen, and damaged helmet that was taken from me. I am so incredibly grateful for the generosity of these foundations, it is unexpected but definitely not under appreciated. I hope that I can show my gratitude and return the favor in the future.”
